Hey ya’ll!

Are you planning a trip to the beautiful country of Costa Rica from the United States?

Looking for some tips to ensure you tap into that Pura Vida magic and make the most of your PTO in Guanacaste Costa Rica?

Well, you’re in the right place. YAY you!

1. Plan Ahead to use Your PTO Wisely in Guanacaste Costa Rica

Before you set out on your Costa Rican journey, I highly suggest taking some time to map out your adventure. Now, I’m not talking about mapping out every single second (that’s no fun, right?). Just jot down the locations you want to explore and the must-try activities you’ve been dreaming about. Planning ahead ensures you make the most of your precious PTO days since you have the opportunity to book things in advance and understand the essentials needed to be packed based on the weather conditions for your trip.

Oh, and speaking of maximizing those days – why not plan your trip around extended weekends or holidays? Genius, right? Extend your Costa Rican escapade and experience the true magic of Pura Vida.

2. Pack Light and Smart

Did I overpack when I went to Guanacaste Costa Rica? Absolutely! However, I wore less than half of what I packed, and I had to lug around those heavy-ass bags every time I went to a new location, which was not fun. Learn from my mistakes and save those PTO days for fun! Costa Rica is all about being outside, so pack smart and keep it light. Bring the essentials and make sure you’ve done your research for the weather during the time you’ll be there to understand the base outfits you should bring.

I went in January, which for Costa Rica was its dry season, known locally as “summer.” Yup, you heard that right – summer in January! Be sure to apply your sunscreen!

You can leave those winter coats behind and embrace the hot heated embrace of the sun. Unfortunately, I was flying from snowy Denver with a coat, so I was peeling out of my clothes before I even got all the way out of the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport or LIR Airport in Guanacaste Costa Rica. The nights were pleasantly cool, which offered a break from the daytime heat. As far as any rain, during my time there, I actually did not catch a drop of rain. Apparently, January is the month when Mother Nature gives her watering can a break.

Also, since Verizon wanted to charge me an absurd amount of money for use of my phone and hotspot, I can also tell you that you might as well just leave those laptops behind unless you are staying on a hotel premises the entire time to use Wi-Fi (this will also leave some room in your luggage!) .

If you really want to go light, ditch the heavy suitcase and opt for a backpack – experience true freedom or true chaos – the world is your oyster!

3. Embrace the Pura Vida Lifestyle in Guanacaste Costa Rica

In case you hadn’t heard, in Costa Rica, “Pura Vida” means Pure Life or simple life. It is a saying, but not only a saying, it is their way of life and something I came to truly appreciate and miss once back on my home turf.

Take advantage of relaxing and soaking up sun by the pristine black sand beaches, sway in a hammock with a book, or simply savor the sunsets with your cocktail of choice in hand.
